providence place
Providence Place animals in a landscape. This book is about a move from the city to the country and how it takes time to adapt to the different life style. There are many moving instances when trial and error , proves to be a tough way to learn the ways of the country. Anyone with an interest in animals will find this book of great interest as it is not only an excellently written novel in itself but has a strong and moving storyline with a lot of animal interest but also humour and true to life events which made this book top of my list! I could go on with more details but I challenge any animal lover to read this book and not enjoy it!

Cry-star : Never a dull moment
This is an excellent source book for Providence. It gives a great overview of the city and and the important people who run it. The book includes maps of the different areas of the city. From the dismal under-city of Kasm, where the fallen live, to the beautiful platfroms that make up Haven, the home of the upper castes. It also includes the stats for the major non-player characters of the world and how they act and react to each other and a brief history of each.

This book is a must for any adventure in the city and as an excellent reference.

Providence: The Ecology

Talking about the birds and the bees....
Did you ever wonder about the flora and fauna of a fantasy world. The book from Xid Creative about the ecology of the world of Providence is excellent. "The Ecology" has an unique way of presenting the flora and fauna of Providence. The first section of the book is a story about a traveler through the wilds of the world and the back section has all the appropiate stats for the plants and animals seen. This format is both different and interesting as it gives the reader an understanding of the interaction of the world while still giving the important info needed to give the game extra flavor.

I recomend that this book be read by any gamemasters who wish to run adventures in the Deep and any player whose character is a Horizon Strider.

Becoming Fire
Wow! The Kestrels are, in my opinion, the best group in the world of Providence. Reading this book increased that love. It's full of background, spells, fighting styles, great artwork, and really gives you a feeling of "becoming fire."

I grew up with this book.
This book was one of my favorites growing up. I really enjoyed the prayers of the children as they prayed about things that seem so obvious to me today. The art is great. The pictures captivate young minds. The prayers make me realize what child like faith is all about.

Serious Talk: Science and Religion in Dialogue
Published in Paperback by Trinity Pr Intl (January, 1995)
Author: John C. Polkinghorne
Average review score:

Accesible treatment of issues in science and religion
Once again, scientist-theologian John Polkinghorne has written a lucid and accessible treatment of the relationship between science and religon. "Serious Talk" is just what its title implies: a conversational, but by no means superficial, discussion of key issues in the ever-growing dialogue between science and theology, to which Polkinghorne himself has made significant contributions. These issues include the interpretation of quantum theory, parallel features of the two disciplines, creation, resurrection, and eschatology. The chapter on "Providence" is especially helpful, as it relates developments in chaos theory to our understanding of God's interaction with the world. Overall, this book makes an essential contribution to the Polkinghorne corpus and to the larger science-theology debate; readers of his earlier works will not be disappointed, as some material here (again, note the "Providence" chapter} marks clear advances in his consideration of these issues.

Step by Step: Divine Guidance for Ordinary Christians (Resources for Changing Lives)
Published in Paperback by P & R Press (July, 1999)
Authors: James C. Petty and Petty James C.
Average review score:

A breath of fresh air if you are looking for God's guidance
I have just read this book after being involved in a study of Henry Blackaby's "Experiencing God" study. In Blackaby's study, the student is challenged to wait upon a revelation from God concerning His will before acting. As I pondered this idea, it seemed to be contrary to the apostle Paul's attempting to enter certain areas for the purpose of spreading the gospel only to be stopped by the Holy Spirit (Acts 16:6-10). In Paul's letters, he makes mention of multiple attempts to visit the church's he had established only to be prevented by Satan (1 Thessalonians 2:18). Paul seemed to be acting contrary to Blackaby's method and this disturbed me.

After reading Petty's book, everything fell into place. Paul was acting in accordance with the principles given in Petty's book. He was being guided by wisdom and providence (two things key to the Scriptural teaching regarding God's will) and not by direct revelations from God.

James Petty challenges much of what is written today regarding searching out God's will for your life. This book has addressed many of my questions about understanding God's guidance in my life. It has given me a deeper understanding about what the Bible teaches regarding God's will and how I should make decisions. The only problem I had with the book was Petty's remark that Satan can sometimes place thoughts in our minds. I cannot figure out how Petty draws this conclusion from Scripture and he does not explain why he believes this in the book. (This one issue should certainly not dissuade you from reading the book - it was simply a passing remark and is certainly not foundational to Petty's argument!)

Petty's approach is definitely different from other books I have read, but he does an excellent job of establishing his teaching on the foundation of the Scriptures and showing the problems with many modern approaches to seeking out God's will for your life. As Colossians 1:9-12 teaches, the key to understanding God's will is gaining wisdom and it would be wise to buy this book if you have been frustrated or confused by what you have read in other books.

Take another look at guidance; a study of divine guidance
Published in Unknown Binding by Logos International ()
Author: Bob Mumford
Average review score:

great book on god's guidance
Mumford draws from the Bible to offer guidelines on how to determine the will of God and this book is one of the best I have ever read on that topic. (One of the other ones I can think of is Kenneth Hagin's How You Can Be Led by the Spirit of God. The two books cover different aspects but they are both very helpful.) To summarize very briefly, he says there are three things you should look for in determining how God's will applies to everyday, real life situations: (1) the word of God (as revealed in the Bible), (2) the inner witness of the Holy Spirit, and (3) everyday circumstances. He backs this up with examples from the Bible and the testimony of his own life. The author is currently involved in a ministry which he calls the Lifechangers ministry. This is a great book and it has been a great influence on me in seeking God's guidance. It is one of a number of good books that he has written.

Toward a Christian Conception of History
Published in Paperback by University Press of America (July, 2002)
Authors: M. C. Smit, Herbert Donald Morton, and Harry Van Dyke
Average review score:

Towards a Reformed Conception of History
Smit comes out of the Reformational School of thinking, was greatly influenced by Abraham Kuyper, and studied under Herman Dooyeweerd. The driving force in his life--especially towards the end--was to articulate the Divine Mystery in History, the name of one of the papers which in included in this book. He desired, like his contemporaries, to see all of life placed under the Lordship of Christ. To this end he provides a critique of the thinking of his contemporary Catholic historians and philosophers of history, which, it is noted, was well received by both Reformed and Catholic thinkers alike. His mastery of the issues he deals with in the study of history is complete.
